Harvey Lefkowitz, DPM
Physician and Surgeon
of the
Foot and Ankle
Dr. Lefkowitz was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Northwest Detroit. He is the third and youngest child of immigrant parents. His parents shared the American Dream and hoped that their children would some day achieve their dreams. Dr. Lefkowitz learned the meaning of hard work at an early age while working for his father who was a painting contractor. His early lessons of hard work turned out to be invaluable, for many lessons he would need to rely on in later years.
Dr. Lefkowitz grew up in the Detroit area and attended local school systems, graduating from Southfield High School in 1974. He attended Wayne State University through 1977 and was admitted to the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine under early admissions based on academic excellence. He spent four years living in Chicago and attending medical school there where he received two degrees, one a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a second being his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Following his graduation he came back to his hometown and finished his training with a residency program in Foot and Ankle Surgery at North Detroit General Hospital, which was completed in 1982. It was during that year that he met his wife, Linda, whom he married one year later. Dr. Lefkowitz went into practice in 1982, being the youngest podiatrist in the state of Michigan and among the youngest in the country. He knew what he lacked in age had to made up by hard work and perfection.
Over the next 30 years Dr. Lefkowitz had many achievements with his most proud being a dedicated father and physician. He felt that his patients were extended family, and upon the birth of each of his three children, twins Rhonda and Helene and Steven two years younger, he sent out announcement cards to each one of his patients, many of whom he still sees today.
Professionally, Dr. Lefkowitz has trained over 100 resident doctors who have gone on to leadership roles in their state and national organizations. He has lectured both locally, as well as internationally on various subjects of foot and ankle surgery. He maintains three private practices and shares those responsibilities with associate and partner physicians. He has held leadership positions in both hospitals and community organizations. He continues to publish in medical journals and always lends a helping hand to other physicians when called for consultation or assistance with complex surgical procedures.
In summary, Dr. Lefkowitz has dedicated his life to his family, his profession, and his patients. He plans to continue in his current capacity as he has been blessed with what he loves to do every single day.
